What happened: Fabrizio Romano reports that Michael Carrick will remain as Manchester United head coach, signaling the club's intent to continue under his leadership. The update aligns with prior reporting that permanent contract talks were opening and that broad agreement was in place between Carrick and the club. Final contract details are still being worked through between the parties.

Why it matters: Carrick's retention ends weeks of speculation about his uncertain future at Old Trafford and locks in continuity heading into a pivotal summer window. For a club that has churned through managers in the post-Ferguson era, committing to Carrick signals a shift toward longer-horizon planning rather than another reset. The decision also clarifies recruitment authority and shapes how United approach transfer targets and staff structure in the coming weeks.

What to watch: Watch for the official club announcement and contract length, plus any accompanying changes to Carrick's coaching staff. Transfer activity in the opening days of the window will be the first real test of the renewed mandate.
