What happened: Dylan Cease became the first American League pitcher to record 200 strikeouts in the 2026 season. The mark is his sixth consecutive 200-strikeout campaign.

Why it matters: The streak keeps Cease in the AL Cy Young conversation as the season heads into its stretch run. Six straight 200-strikeout years is a run matched previously only by Max Scherzer (2012-19) and Chris Sale (2013-19).

By the numbers: Cease closed July with a 1.00 ERA, a figure already factoring into the AL Cy Young race with Schlittler.

What to watch: Cease and the Blue Jays continue the stretch run with the AL Cy Young race still unsettled.
