What happened: Carter originally joined Boston on a training camp agreement in mid-September and remained with the club despite an October illness that sidelined him against Philadelphia and Charlotte. In a simultaneous set of preseason roster cuts, the franchise waived Tucker DeVries, Gabe McGlothan, Hayden Gray, and Milos Uzan.

Why it matters: The two-way structure allows Carter to split the 2026-27 campaign between the NBA roster and the G League without occupying one of Boston's 15 standard contract spots. Securing the guard ahead of regular-season roster deadlines preserves backcourt depth after four other camp invitees cleared out.

By the numbers: Carter recorded 17 points and five rebounds in his Oct. 9 preseason appearance before missing exhibition matchups on Oct. 11 and Oct. 14 with an illness.

What to watch: Carter enters the 2026-27 regular season in Boston's two-way rotation as he works back to full availability following his mid-October illness.
