What happened: The Washington Commanders placed defensive tackles Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw, along with running back Jeremy McNichols, on injured reserve Tuesday. The roster moves follow Washington evaluating McNichols for a significant foot injury suffered in Sunday's win over Philadelphia.

Why it matters: The defensive line losses severely thin Washington's interior front as the team sits at 2-4-1 through seven games in 2026. With Payne sidelined for the remainder of the season and Kinlaw also unavailable, Washington faces immediate depth challenges on defense.

What to watch: Washington will need to elevate defensive depth from the practice squad or seek external roster additions to replenish the interior front.
