What happened: Washington Commanders picked Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles seventh overall in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Styles, a 6-4, 240-pound defender, excelled in coverage and run stopping during his senior year. ESPN confirmed the selection live from the draft.

Why it matters: The pick fills a glaring hole at linebacker for a Commanders defense that ranked 28th in points allowed last season. Styles' athleticism projects as a Day 1 starter in Dan Quinn's scheme. Draft props on his position settled, with books adjusting rookie futures.

By the numbers: Player stats (2025 college): 112 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 INTs, 2 FF. Team record (2025 NFL): 4-13, No. 7 pick via trade-up. Draft prop movement: Styles .5 hit under; Commanders next pick shift for EDGE.

What to watch: Monitor Commanders' second-round plans for offensive line help. Watch Styles' rookie tackle prop at 85.5.
