What happened: Dallas Cowboys sit among the league leaders in plays run while trailing during the 2026 regular season. San Francisco paces the low end with 57 such plays, followed by Minnesota with 70, Kansas City with 71, Green Bay with 75 and Baltimore with 84. Tennessee sits at the opposite end with 247 plays trailing.

Why it matters: High trailing volume points to early deficits and more comeback snaps. Spending fewer snaps behind has allowed San Francisco, Minnesota and Kansas City to control game scripts.

By the numbers: Fewest plays trailing: 49ers 57, Vikings 70, Chiefs 71, Packers 75, Ravens 84; Most plays trailing: Titans 247.

What to watch: Watch whether Dallas starts faster and reduces first-half deficits to play more snaps with a lead.
