What happened: Dallas added veteran defensive coach Mike Pettine to support its defense. Kirk Herbstreit weighed in on what the move means during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

Why it matters: Dallas is 2-3 and ranks last in EPA per drive. The early slide has left little margin before the division race separates.

By the numbers: Dallas is 2-3. EPA per drive ranks last in the league.

What to watch: Watch how Dallas uses Pettine on game day. The next outing will show whether the added experience steadies the unit.
