What happened: Dani Ceballos will leave Real Madrid as a free agent, with the decision now made after he was deemed surplus to Jose Mourinho's plans. Real Betis are among the clubs keen on the midfielder, while Ajax tried to sign him back in May.

Why it matters: The exit closes a long Madrid chapter for Ceballos and frees a squad spot as Mourinho reshapes his midfield. A move to Real Betis would mark a homecoming for the academy product, who came through Betis before joining Madrid. This continues the trend of Ceballos being pushed toward the exit after months of limited involvement.

What to watch: Watch whether Real Betis firm up their interest into a formal approach, and whether Ajax revive the move they explored in May.
