What happened: Albert Pujols met with Houston on Thursday after traveling to Texas to interview for the open Astros manager role. The future Hall of Famer stated he is prepared to lead a major league dugout as the organization evaluates candidates for its vacancy.

Why it matters: Hiring Pujols would make him the first 700-home-run hitter in Major League Baseball history to become a manager. The move would establish a high-profile leadership change in Houston following the conclusion of the 2026 postseason.

What to watch: The Astros will continue their formal interview process before naming their next manager ahead of the 2027 season.
