What happened: The Philadelphia Phillies jumped ahead on the road when Derek Hill emptied the bases with a clutch hit.

Why it matters: The offensive breakthrough provided crucial run support for a squad facing a win-or-go-home scenario.

By the numbers: Philadelphia entered the contest with a 76-65 record this season, while the swing continued a productive month for Hill, who hit his fourth pinch-hit home run of the year on Sept. 6.

What to watch: The Phillies will attempt to preserve the margin and force another game in the series.
