What happened: New Jersey completed its move for a starting goaltender for the 2026-27 season. Sheldon Keefe said Hellebuyck intends to join the upcoming road trip once remaining checks are complete.

Why it matters: New Jersey has chased stability in net through the early weeks of the regular season. A proven starter changes how the Devils distribute starts and handle back-to-backs through winter.

What to watch: Clearance to practice in full and a first projected start on the trip are next. A new helmet is expected by end of week.
