What happened: Philadelphia outside linebacker Nolan Smith was evaluated on the field during Sunday's in-progress game and walked to the locker room without his helmet before being ruled out for the rest of the contest. The Carolina Panthers lead the Philadelphia Eagles 10-7 with the game in progress.

Why it matters: Smith's exit further thins an Eagles pass rush that entered the matchup already missing injured edge defender Jalyx Hunt. Practice-squad elevation Keyshawn James-Newby stepped in for his regular-season debut alongside Jonathan Greenard and Arnold Ebiketie.

What to watch: Greenard, Ebiketie, and James-Newby will shoulder the remaining outside linebacker snaps for Philadelphia as play continues against Carolina.
