What happened: Philadelphia signed running back Ian Wheeler to its practice squad on Thursday. Wheeler previously joined the Bills in June after a UFL breakout and scored a fourth-quarter touchdown for Buffalo in August.

Why it matters: The signing reinforces a Philadelphia running back room that has dealt with injuries earlier in October. Backfield depth takes on added importance this week with quarterback Jalen Hurts ruled out for Sunday's game against Carolina due to a superficial blood clot.

What to watch: Wheeler will be eligible for a standard game-day elevation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Panthers if Philadelphia needs another active rusher.
