What happened: The hit finished the game at Petco Park and capped another jump in Salas' first month in the majors. It came six days after his first major-league hit and three days after his first two MLB homers in one night.

Why it matters: The burst has turned Salas from a September debut story into an immediate late-season contributor. MLB said the walk-off made him the youngest player with a walk-off hit since Manny Machado in 2012.

By the numbers: Salas' first MLB hit came on Sept. 14, his first two MLB homers came on Sept. 17, and the walk-off followed on Sept. 20. He was 20 years, 107 days old when he hit those first two homers, and the club's win streak reached four games after a 13-2 run over its last 15.

What to watch: Watch whether Salas keeps drawing leverage spots in the lineup after a week that kept expanding his role. San Diego also carried a 2-0 series lead into Sunday's scheduled start.
