What happened: A handful of front-office executives lauded the Kansas City Chiefs for signing free-agent running back Kenneth Walker III last offseason. The transaction secured a talented workhorse for the franchise ahead of subsequent market shifts.

Why it matters: The contract provides Kansas City with long-term cost certainty at the position. Walker's addition aims to raise the ceiling of an offense attempting to find its rhythm early in the season.

What to watch: Kansas City is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts.
