What happened: Free agent forward Simone Fontecchio intends to sign a one-year deal to return to the Miami Heat. Heat officials worked with Fontecchio's agent, Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports Management, to bring the shooter back to South Florida.

Why it matters: Retaining Fontecchio gives Miami a reliable perimeter shooter as it reshapes its roster, the same offseason in which the Heat have leaned on free agency to build out their supporting cast. Keeping a known floor-spacer on a short-term deal preserves both spacing and future flexibility heading into 2026-27.

What to watch: Watch for the contract to become official and for how Fontecchio's return shapes Miami's remaining offseason moves and rotation.
