What happened: Formula 1 and local organizers finalized a five-year contract extension to keep the São Paulo Grand Prix on the calendar through at least 2035. The event, held at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Interlagos, previously operated under an extension signed in 2023 that ran through 2030. The updated agreement secures the circuit's spot as stakeholders continue long-term venue modernization.

Why it matters: The long-term extension provides the financial certainty required for the São Paulo city council and event promoters to fund track infrastructure upgrades. Formula 1 has increasingly sought decade-spanning commitments from cornerstone circuits amid high global demand for race calendar slots. Interlagos has hosted the championship continuously since 1990 after the Brazilian round moved from Rio de Janeiro.

What to watch: On-track running at Interlagos continues with practice and qualifying ahead of Sunday's São Paulo Grand Prix.
