What happened: Cody Gakpo celebrated his 50th international appearance by scoring his 20th goal for the Netherlands in a 2-0 warm-up victory over Uzbekistan at Icahn Stadium. The forward converted a 31st-minute penalty to help the Oranje bounce back from a recent shock defeat to Algeria.

Why it matters: The performance provides a much-needed morale boost following the sad news of Jurriën Timber being ruled out of the World Cup with a persistent groin injury. Gakpo's clinical form cements his role as the focal point of Ronald Koeman's attack as the squad prepares for their tournament opener against Japan on June 14.

What to watch: The Netherlands travel to Dallas to begin their World Cup campaign against Japan, while Lutsharel Geertruida joins the squad as a late replacement for Timber.
