My understanding was that early on the Giants thought J.J. McCarthy could have enough of the offense down by around week Via @JamesPalmerTV on X

What happened: Per James Palmer, the New York Giants set weeks 6-8 as the window for J.J. McCarthy to learn enough of the offense to function. Week 7 lands inside that window, and McCarthy has shown enough command to operate the system as the starting quarterback.

Why it matters: A midseason change resets preparation for the New York Giants around a younger passer. His command of the system will determine how much of the playbook stays available.

By the numbers: McCarthy completed 140 of 243 passes for 1,632 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions across 10 games in 2025.

What to watch: The first start will show how much of the playbook is available. Midweek preparation will indicate how far coaches extend his package.
