Detroit Tigers GM Jeff Greenberg — citing his commitment and desire to finish what he’s started— has withdrawn from cons Via @FriedgeHNIC on X

What happened: The Tigers general manager cited his commitment to the club and a desire to finish what he started. He communicated his decision to Detroit, which will continue its search for a hockey-operations chief.

Why it matters: His candidacy offered Detroit a cross-sport option after the Tigers GM reportedly entered the mix in August. The vacancy is carrying toward training camp after the Red Wings missed the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season.

By the numbers: Greenberg, 40, has served three seasons as Tigers GM and spent 2022-23 as an NHL assistant GM.

What to watch: Detroit must decide whether to complete the search before training camp.
