What happened: Atlanta and Charlotte discussed swapping Buddy Hield for Dorian Finney-Smith with regular-season roster compliance due next month, per Jake L. Fischer. Atlanta guaranteed Hield at roughly $9.7 million earlier this offseason, with just over $3 million partially guaranteed in 2027-28. Finney-Smith is owed about $14.2 million this season, with 2027-28 money non-guaranteed.

Why it matters: Atlanta would add another defensive-minded wing while preserving 2027 cap flexibility. Charlotte carries 16 fully guaranteed contracts, leaving little room for Hield on its regular-season roster.

What to watch: Training camps open next month. Watch whether either team finalizes compliance moves before the deadline.
