What happened: Jon Heyman endorsed the contract extensions retaining general manager Brian Cashman and pitching coach Matt Blake on a three-year pact. Cashman confirmed his new agreement to remain general manager during a Zoom session with reporters. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels reversed course in their dugout by declining the 2027 contract option on manager Kurt Suzuki and offering him a special assistant role.

Why it matters: Locking in both Cashman and Blake preserves front-office and pitching-staff continuity entering the offseason rather than opening dual leadership vacancies on the market. By contrast, the Los Angeles Angels enter the managerial coaching market after moving Suzuki out of the dugout chair while attempting to retain him in an advisory capacity.

What to watch: The Los Angeles Angels now begin a search for a new field manager as offseason roster decisions approach across MLB. Suzuki will decide whether to accept the club's special assistant role or pursue coaching opportunities elsewhere.
