What happened: New Cyclones athletics boss Jared Benko brought in Josh Turner from Florida State to help lead the department, per Pete Thamel. The appointment marks the third different collegiate stop where the two administrators have worked together.

Why it matters: Tapping a trusted lieutenant from two prior stops lets Benko install familiar executive leadership as he reshapes the senior staff in Ames. Immediate continuity at the deputy level streamlines department operations during the 2026 Big 12 campaign.

What to watch: Benko will continue filling out his remaining executive vacancies at Iowa State while Florida State works to replace Turner on its administrative cabinet.
