What happened: The New York Islanders signed 33-year-old defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year, one-way contract. The agreement follows Hutton's arrival on a professional tryout earlier in the week. Representation at Octagon Hockey confirmed the finalized terms.

Why it matters: The addition strengthens New York's depth on the blue line at a manageable cap figure. Hutton provides experienced defensive insurance without requiring significant long-term financial commitment.

What to watch: The Islanders integrate Hutton into team skates before setting his timeline for game action.
