What happened: Jayson Tatum beat the first-quarter horn to close the opening period. The basket landed on the league's Oct. 20 tip-off night on NBC.

Why it matters: The 2026-27 standings start with opening-night results. A horn-beating basket banks points before second-quarter rotations arrive.

What to watch: Three more quarters will test whether that early touch carries.
