What happened: Adam Schefter pointed to Joe Brady and Ed Oliver for game-ball honors after Buffalo beat Houston 36-31 in Week 1. Brady's first game as head coach ended with his first career win in the job.

Why it matters: The result gives Buffalo an immediate 1-0 start under a first-year coach carrying high expectations. Oliver's mention puts a defensive name beside a debut that otherwise centered on Brady's transition from coordinator to head coach.

What to watch: Buffalo turns quickly to its next test as Brady's early-game management and Oliver's defensive role come under a fuller regular-season sample.
