What happened: Forward Joona Koppanen has signed a contract with Luleå HF in the Swedish Hockey League. The 28-year-old returns to Europe after spending the 2025-26 season within the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

Why it matters: Koppanen served as a reliable defensive center and veteran presence for the Penguins' minor league affiliate. His departure thins the organizational depth at center as he seeks a more consistent role in his native continent.

What to watch: Koppanen will join Luleå for the 2026-27 season. The move creates an immediate need for depth center reinforcements in the AHL.
