What happened: Hart arrived for opening night with a title tribute worked into his braids. New York raised its championship banner before the 7 p.m. tip to open its title defense.

Why it matters: The banner is the franchise's first banner in 53 years. That history frames the opener as a title defense rather than a standard October tip.

What to watch: New York tips off after the ceremony to start the 2026-27 campaign.
