What happened: New York left its NBA Cup banner down last season. Ariel Helwani points to tonight's scheduled ceremony as the moment to raise that banner alongside the championship banner.

Why it matters: The earlier restraint drew mockery when a title felt distant. Pairing the banners now would recast that call as a wait for bigger stakes.

What to watch: The ceremony comes before play begins, with tip still scheduled.
