What happened: Kyrie Irving returned to NBA action during opening week of the 2026-27 season. The comeback ends a 598-day absence covering the full 2025-26 season.

Why it matters: A layoff spanning a full season reshapes rotation responsibility and late-game creation. Outside trade interest was rebuffed in July, keeping his contract window tied to the same group that waited through 2025-26.

What to watch: Next is minutes and availability through the opening stretch of the 2026-27 season.
