"Replacing such a big name is no easy task in itself." Mekies under the microscope: How different is his leadership at Via @autosport on X

What happened: Laurent Mekies has transitioned Red Bull Racing from Christian Horner's long-standing tenure to a trust-centered management structure. That leadership shift culminated this week when Red Bull extended team principal Mekies through 2031 on a new five-year contract.

Why it matters: Replacing Horner required steadying the organization after an early-season winless stretch and high-level meetings with Jos Verstappen and Raymond Vermeulen in July. Securing both Max Verstappen's commitment ahead of Baku and Mekies' contract through 2031 locks in Red Bull's core hierarchy ahead of the 2030 engine regulation changes.

By the numbers: Red Bull broke its winless start to the 2026 F1 season with a pole-to-win victory at Sepang, where the crew also logged the fastest pit stop. Verstappen followed up by converting pole position into his first career Singapore Grand Prix win at Marina Bay, while teammate Liam Lawson finished seventh.

What to watch: Red Bull heads to the United States Grand Prix in Austin looking to build on consecutive victories at Sepang and Marina Bay.
