What happened: Liam Lawson jumped 1.6 seconds clear of Oliver Bearman to take the top spot during wet running at the São Paulo Grand Prix. Both drivers posted their benchmark laps on intermediate tires as rain intensified at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace. The pace advantage and worsening weather forced the rest of the field to switch over to intermediate compounds.

Why it matters: The sudden weather shift placed wet-weather tire strategy at the center of the race weekend in Brazil. Adapting early to intermediate rubber proved decisive as standing water escalated risks and limited clean running for rivals on slick compounds.

What to watch: Teams will monitor rainfall levels and track drainage ahead of the race at Interlagos. Further precipitation could dictate intermediate and full-wet tire allocations throughout the Grand Prix.
