What happened: Philadelphia faces New York at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night to open the 2026-27 season. James arrives for his first regular-season game with Philadelphia at the arena where he previously posted 50-point performances.

Why it matters: The opener starts a record Year 24 for James, extending the league longevity mark. The Garden date carries added weight because he has spoken about wanting to finish his career in that building. A strong debut in that setting would frame his Philadelphia tenure from the first night.

What to watch: Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on opening night. His minutes, role and late-game usage will set the early read on the Philadelphia fit.
