What happened: Dallas formally re-signed Dwight Powell after bringing the veteran big man back on Sept. 25. Dallas has also not ruled out trying to create a roster spot for Powell as preseason work begins.

Why it matters: Powell gives the Mavericks a familiar frontcourt option as they sort out depth for the 2026-27 season. If Dallas opens a standard roster place for him, a camp reunion would turn into a regular-season roster decision.

What to watch: Watch for any corresponding Dallas roster move as preseason preparations continue. Powell's role in camp should clarify whether this stays a short-term depth addition or becomes a full roster spot.
