What happened: The agreement made Klay Thompson an unrestricted free agent after two seasons in Dallas. He later cleared waivers and agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million contract with a player option for Year 2.

Why it matters: Dallas gains a roster opening as it reshapes the team for 2026-27. Thompson's waiver clearance allowed his next contract to take effect immediately.

What to watch: Dallas's replacement plan and Thompson's role under his new deal are the next offseason markers.
