What happened: Chris Haynes reported the agreement, while Thompson intends to sign with the Miami Heat. He joined Dallas through a six-team sign-and-trade in July 2024.

Why it matters: The buyout opens a roster spot as Dallas reshapes for the 2026-27 season. Miami can add perimeter shooting without surrendering trade assets.

What to watch: Thompson must clear waivers before completing the planned move to Miami.
