What happened: McDavid's early-season production projects to 242 points over a full season. Gretzky holds the single-season record with 215.

Why it matters: A 242-point finish would clear the record by 27 points. That margin puts the NHL's most durable scoring mark within range if production continues.

What to watch: Coming weeks determine whether the scoring rate holds across the full schedule.
