What happened: Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. claimed NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday, marking the first weekly conference award of his NFL career. He earned the recognition after throwing three touchdown passes in a win over San Francisco.

Why it matters: The accolade follows a mid-October stretch in which Penix was cleared from the injury report to start for Atlanta. He becomes the second Falcons offensive player honored by the conference this fall after running back Bijan Robinson took home the weekly award on Sept. 30.

By the numbers: Penix completed 25 of 34 passes for 213 yards and a 118.9 passer rating against the 49ers. Drafted eighth overall out of Washington in 2024, he went 166-of-276 passing for 1,982 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions across nine games in 2025, per ESPN (as of Sept. 29, 2026).

What to watch: Penix will look to build on his first career conference honor as Atlanta continues its 2026 regular-season schedule.
