What happened: Kansas City kept both finalists at its facility all day Wednesday following strong tryouts before awarding the practice-squad spot to the eight-time All-Pro. Team brass cited the veteran's resume as the deciding factor over the second-year Missouri product.

Why it matters: The deal marks the seven-time Pro Bowler's first NFL contract since serving a 10-game Personal Conduct Policy suspension. Mevis remains a free agent after clearing waivers on Oct. 14.

By the numbers: Kansas City sits at 5-1 as the No. 1 seed after falling 20-3 in its Oct. 25 outing.

What to watch: Tucker starts on the practice squad while Kansas City determines whether to elevate him to the active game-day roster.
