What happened: Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is alert and moving Monday after being shot at a Mississippi concert early Sunday, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. There is optimism Hardy will play football again, though the speed of his recovery and the impact on his career remain unknown. Missouri said in a statement that a timeline for his return to football activities is not yet known.

Why it matters: Hardy is a key piece of Missouri's backfield, and any extended absence would reshape the Tigers' offensive plans heading into the 2026 season. The encouraging update is a meaningful shift from the initial uncertainty after the shooting, when his football future was an open question. For a program built on physical run-game identity, the long-term health of its lead back carries roster, depth-chart, and recruiting implications.

What to watch: Watch for an updated medical bulletin from Missouri and any timeline from doctors on when Hardy can resume football activities. Law-enforcement updates on the Mississippi concert shooting investigation are also expected.
