What happened: Several head-to-head series this week will dictate which fringe contenders acquire talent and which pivot to selling before August 3. The Boston Red Sox face the Baltimore Orioles, who recently swept the Houston Astros during a seven-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees host the Pittsburgh Pirates as both clubs jockey for postseason positioning.

Why it matters: The results will heavily influence front office strategies as MLB trade deadline questions take shape. Houston has dropped four consecutive contests, amplifying the urgency to secure rotation and outfield additions. New York remains committed to buying but must evaluate how to address an offense struggling without Aaron Judge.

What to watch: The Miami Marlins and Astros meet in a critical series to evaluate their rosters. Tampa Bay will look to defend its division lead against advancing challengers.
