What happened: Major League Soccer suspended Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner on March 16 following an investigation that substantiated allegations of misconduct, reportedly involving discrimination. The Union and Tanner issued statements responding to the league's decision. Details on the suspension's length were not immediately disclosed.

Why it matters: Tanner played a pivotal role in building the Union's 2025 Supporters' Shield-winning roster, and his absence creates leadership uncertainty during a winless 0-0-4 start to 2026. Historically, executive departures have disrupted Union's momentum, threatening Eastern Conference playoff contention.
