What Georgia said! 👜 Shakira Austin for All-WNBA, WNBA All-Defensive Team, Most Improved Player & Defensive Player

What happened: Washington amplified an awards push for Shakira Austin on Sept. 22 during the 2026 postseason. The case spans four honors, adding All-Defensive Team and Most Improved Player to the All-WNBA and Defensive Player of the Year bid.

Why it matters: All-WNBA and Defensive Player of the Year selections shape league-wide recognition and offseason resume value. A validated two-way anchor gives Washington a defined defensive identity in elimination games.

By the numbers: Austin posted 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists in Washington's 110-80 win over Chicago on Sept. 17.

What to watch: Award voting announcements will settle the four-category bid. Washington's upcoming postseason matchups will test the defensive-anchor argument.
