What happened: Cleveland's ownership group targeted a Division I men's basketball championship bid for its planned indoor facility, only to miss the committee's shortlist.

Why it matters: Attracting the tournament was a priority for the roofed venue after the franchise received NFL owner approval for stadium financing on Oct. 20. Exclusion from this five-year cycle delays any potential hosting opportunity until at least 2037.

What to watch: The Division I Men's Basketball Committee will announce the winning host cities in July.
