What happened: The NFL issued six fines for "major" Week 3 infractions, with Azeez Al-Shaair, Jamal Hill, Kam Curl and Isaiah Likely among the players listed. Al-Shaair and Curl were each fined $17,911, while Hill was docked $5,972 for an illegal blindside block. Al-Shaair's penalty stemmed from a hit on Josh Downs that drew a defenseless-player fine.

Why it matters: Al-Shaair's case carried the most weight because his $17,911 fine for the hit on Downs had raised suspension questions before the league settled on monetary discipline. Houston also had Hill fined in the same review, leaving the Texans with two players on the week's discipline sheet and no game ban attached to either case.

By the numbers: Al-Shaair made 103 tackles with two interceptions in 16 games for Houston in 2025. Hill had six tackles in 12 games last season, while Downs caught 58 passes for 566 yards and four touchdowns for Indianapolis.

What to watch: Any further league explanation would sharpen how repeat-offender cases are being handled this season. Houston's Week 4 availability report will show whether the discipline stays a financial matter only.
