Is David Tyree's helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII the greatest moment in New York sports history? 🤔 @Giants | @NFLLegac

What happened: The NFL sparked a debate Thursday regarding David Tyree's legendary Helmet Catch from Super Bowl XLII, questioning its status as the greatest moment in New York sports history. The play was instrumental in the New York Giants' 17-14 upset victory over the New England Patriots in February 2008.

Why it matters: The reception is widely considered one of the defining plays in NFL history, keeping the Giants' game-winning drive alive. Its legacy is permanently tied to halting the Patriots' quest for a perfect 19-0 season, a storyline that continues to resonate with fans.

By the numbers: The reception was completed on a critical third-and-5 with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Giants entered that postseason as a wild card team with a 10-6 regular-season record before winning the championship.

What to watch: Fans will continue to debate the catch alongside other historic New York championship moments.
