What happened: The veteran third baseman secured the milestone on Tuesday in an Arizona uniform. Nolan Arenado entered the contest needing a single hit after blasting a two-run homer for his 1,999th career knock.

Why it matters: The accomplishment cements his standing among the elite infielders of his generation. He joins a rare group of talents defined by both durable offensive production and defensive excellence.

By the numbers: He becomes the sixth player in MLB history with 2,000 hits, 350 home runs, and 10 Gold Gloves, joining Ken Griffey Jr., Willie Mays, and Mike Schmidt. He also stands as the first player to record his 2,000th hit for Arizona since Luis Gonzalez.

What to watch: Arenado will aim to build on his career totals as the Diamondbacks navigate the remainder of the regular season.
