What happened: The College Football Playoff Selection Committee placed Oregon 23rd in its first rankings of the season, released Nov. 3.

Why it matters: The Ducks sit outside the top dozen in the initial ordering, so they have ground to make up in the committee's weekly updates.

What to watch: Oregon's slot will move as the committee updates its rankings through the rest of the regular season.
