Oregon State revives gray-white-gray look for Washington State clash

True freshman enters with 932 yards, 15 touchdowns

What happened: Oregon State will wear a gray helmet, white jersey and gray pants Saturday, a combination last used in 2022. True freshman Jesse Legree leads the country with 932 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns after 10 catches for 166 yards and three scores against San Diego State.

Why it matters: USA Today added Legree to its Heisman momentum meter as a rare non-Power Four contender. No non-Power Four player has won the award since Ty Detmer in 1990. His edge is consistency against shared opponents, with 100-plus yards in every game and two-plus scores in three straight.

By the numbers: Legree: 932 yards, 15 TDs, 24.5 yards per reception. Washington State uniform splits since 2017: gray helmet 20-14, white jersey 18-34, gray pants 15-9. Owen Eschelman is set to start at quarterback over Caden Pinnick.

What to watch: The rivalry kicks off Saturday in Corvallis. A sixth straight 100-yard game would tighten Legree's grip on the national receiving lead.
