What happened: Patrick Mahomes was cleared to fully participate in all training camp drills from day one at Missouri Western State University, 223 days removed from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered at Arrowhead Stadium. Chiefs coach Andy Reid says the team is still evaluating him day by day and won't rule out playing him in the preseason.

Why it matters: Mahomes says he's treating every rep, even a hard warmup, like it's a real game, and he's leaned on Tom Brady, who came back from a similar knee injury in his ninth season just like Mahomes is doing now. Zach Ertz, who tore his ACL a week before Mahomes while with the Commanders, has been a rehab partner through the process. That level of full-speed clearance this early in camp is a strong signal Kansas City doesn't need to script him in slowly for the Sept. 14 opener against Denver.
